About Prof. Çırpan

Prof. Dr. Ali Çırpan

Ali Cirpan obtained his B.S. in Chemistry (1998) followed by his M.S. (2000) and Ph.D. (2004) at Middle East Technical University (METU). He became interested in the field of electrochromism as a visiting graduate student with the Professor John Reynolds’ Research Laboratory at the University of Florida in 2002.

After finishing his PhD in 2004 with Professor Levent Toppare at METU, he joined the Professor Frank E Karasz research group as a Postdoctoral Associate, at the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, University of Massachusetts, where he developed light emitting devices using new organic or inorganic materials for two and a half years.

From January 2007 to December 2008, he has worked on fabrication and characterization of photovoltaic devices in Professor Thomas P. Russell’s group, at the University of Massachusetts. He then joined the Articulated Technologies, LLC in Wallingford, Connecticut.

Prof. Ali Cirpan returned to Middle East Technical University as an Assistant Professor in 2009. In 2011 he was promoted to Associate Professor at METU in the Department of Chemistry. He is currently a Full Professor in the Departmet of Chemistry at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. Dr. Cirpan’s research focuses on optoelectronic materials, morphologies and devices especially Solar Cell, OLEDs, ECDs.

Oğuzhan Karakurt

Oguzhan received his BS degree in Chemistry at Middle East Technical University. After that, he joined Çırpan Research Group and completed his M.Sc. in 2021. Recently, he is a Ph.D. student and his thesis focuses on developing non-fullerene acceptors and conjugated polymers for organic photovoltaics.

Ph.D. Student - Polymer Science and Technology

Meriç Çalışkan

Meriç joined Cirpan Research Group in 2017 when she was an undergraduate student. She carried out an undergraduate research project in this group on the syntheses of conjugated polymers for solar applications. She graduated from the Department of Chemistry in 2017. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student in the Cirpan Research Group.

Selin İlter

Selin graduated from the Department of Chemistry at METU in 2021 and completed her master’s degree in 2024. She joined Çırpan Research Group as a M.Sc. student in the same year. She is working on the synthesis of phenanthroimidazole based materials for OLED application.

Sevgi Aydın

Sevgi received her BS degree in Chemistry at Middle East Technical University. She started as an undergraduate student at Çırpan Research Group in 2021 and continued as a Master’s student. Graduated from M.Sc. in 2025 Her main research focuses on the synthesis of new conjugated polymers for application in photovoltaic devices.

Meltem Türkatar

Meltem graduated from Department of Chemistry Education at Middle East Technical University in 2022. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she joined Çırpan Research Group in July 2022 as a Masters Student. Her thesis focuses on synthesis of high-yield conjugated polymers for photovoltaic applications.

Gizem graduated from Middle East Technical University with a BS degree in chemistry. She began working at Çırpan Research Group in 2021 and she is currently a Masters Student there. The synthesis of conjugated polymers for organic photovoltaic applications is her primary research area of interest.

Cem Maraşlıoğlu

Cem completed his BS degree in Middle East Technical University Department of Chemistry. During the undergraduate period, he joined Çırpan Research Group and studied organic photovoltaic solar cells. In 2022, he has begun his Master’s study in the group. His main research interest covers synthesis of organic small molecules for organic light emitting diode applications.

Bilge received her undergraduate degree from the Department of Chemistry at Middle East Technical University in January 2024. She joined the Cırpan Research Group in her senior year in the Department of Chemistry and is currently continuing her master’s degree in the MNT department.
